Ready to step onto the mat and begin your journey?

I totally get it.

To start practicing yoga can be intimidating..

I know, because for me it was just like that. Until life forced me to make some changes and take better care of myself. I was exhausted from work, I wasn't happy with the way I lived my life, I didn't love myself very much and hence wasn't looking after myself. Mood swings and depressions started to take over my life. I knew I had to make changes. Big changes.

And one of them was overcoming my fear of starting yoga. Fear of not being good enough, flexible enough, fit enough, young enough or strong enough.. Hell, the list was long.

But circumstances kinda forced me to look at my life and make some serious health. changes. So, I pulled myself together and made that appointment for a private yoga session with a yoga teacher who turned out to become an amazing instructor and lifelong friend. And you guessed it right... the first class didn't kill me and I was quickly hooked, but it still took a long time to get over my insecurities, self-doubt and lack of self-love. Yoga helped me - and continues to help me - navigate my own personal journey to becoming physically and mentally healthier, more aware of the present and ever more mindful.

So, yes, Yoga can be intimidating at first, but don't let your worries and misconceptions prevent you from trying that first session and discovering your own path through practice.

Yoga is for everyone.

Anyone can practice yoga.

If you can breathe, you can do yoga

ANYWHERE

Still not sure?

I hear you!

There are some common fears and misconceptions out there, so let's start by addressing them right now

I am not flexible!

1

No problem, you don't have to be. Thats where yoga can help you - to become more flexible; slowly and step by step. We all have different bodies and some people are naturally more flexible than others. It doesn't matter. Consistent yoga practice, over time, will help you become more limber. When I first started, I couldn't touch my toes. Now I can. But I still have a lot of trouble with tight hamstrings and back bends. Yoga is a journey.

It's too hard!

2

Of course, it will be challenging.

As with everything, it takes time to get good at something new. This is why yoga is a "practice".

Instead, embrace the challenge! Celebrate the milestones and achievements unique to YOUR JOURNEY.

"I'm just not a yoga person"

3

Yoga's beauty lies in the fact that it is for everyone.

There is no stereotypical yogi. Period.

You don't have to be thin, beautiful, young, flexible, spiritual, vegan or anything else to practice yoga. It's all-inclusive.

Everyone is welcome!

"I'm afraid I'm going to cry in class"

4

Some asanas, such as hip openers and heart openers, can crack open the part of our psyches where we store negative emotions and memories. Yoga releases toxins and bad karma from our bodies and sometimes this process of letting go can be dramatic, and it can feel really strange. It happens to me all the time! Camel pose or the Wheel still get me and yes, I have cried in front of my yoga teachers and entire class before. It can be a struggle to let yourself feel vulnerable in public or in front of your teacher, but rest assured that getting rid of the negative energy is healthy and important and afterwards, you will feel amazing!

"I've never done anything like this before"

5

One benefit of yoga is the undeniable fact that you will always be presented with something you have never done before. Whether it's a yoga pose, a way of thinking, or simply a way of being. Again, you're not alone in feeling this way. It takes a leap of faith and a willingness to do something out of our comfort zone in order to reap the rewards of yoga practice.

"Do I have to make a commitment?"

6

Your first class is free of charge so you can get a feel for yoga and to see if I am a good fit for you! Just contact me to make an appointment. The only commitment you have to make is to yourself: that you will make the time to come for a session.

Consistency is key to seeing a positive shift.

"Do I need any special equipment  or clothing?"

7

We use props in yoga al the time and I have everything you need at my home-studio, although you are welcome to bring your own mat. All you really need is comfortable exercise clothing. I will provide a mat (if you don't have one), straps and blocks. You just need to show up.

"I can't quiet my mind."

8

This is one of themes challenging aspects of yoga - for everyone - and the best reason to keep coming back. Due to the fast pace and instant gratification quality of our lives, we don't get much time to clear our minds. If we do have time, it can be scary to open up to the inner workings of the mind. It is also easy to feel like a failure at quieting the mind if, each time you try, you feel it is filled with a chaos of thoughts. This is perfectly normal. Our mind is like a child who has been told to stay quiet while the adults talk. When it gets the chance to open up, it does. Yoga teaches us that the breath is always there to guide us. Start small and embrace a minute or two of letting your mind calm down, taking a deep breath each time you start to feel overwhelmed by the thoughts that intrude, and letting them go with an exhale.
